BATCH I : Report of Introduction to the politics of Maharashtra

18-22 May 2020

In the backdrop of Maharashtra completing 60 years of statehood in May 2020, Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini organised an online training programme covering various aspects of the evolution of state’s politics. The course titled – Foundation Course in Maharashtra Politics covered 10 themes about the state’s political history. Due to overwhelming response to the idea, two batches were held simultaneously with a joint inaugural and valedictory session.

The course was inaugurated by Dr Vinay Sahasrabuddhe who introduced the participants to the geographical divide in the state and gave a brief introduction to the evolution of Maharashtra Politics whereas former IAS officer, educator and political commentator Avinash Dharmadhikari graced the valedictory ceremony speaking on the current political situation in Maharashtra and also answered questions of participants.

The five-day online training programme covered lectures on three major socio-political movements in Maharashtra – Samyukta Maharashtra Movement, Workers Movement, Dalit Movement along with an economic movement – Co-operative movement. It also has a session each on birth, growth and evolution of the four major political parties of Maharashtra – Congress, Shiv Sena, BJP and NCP along with a session on Role of Caste in Maharashtra Politics.

All the sessions were addressed by senior journalists, academicians and subject experts. Senior journalists Arvind Kulkarni, Dilip Chaware, Raveendra Gole, Mrinalini Nanivadekar and Dhaval Kulkarni took sessions along with academicians Prof Avinash Kolhe, Dr Prakash Pawar, former MP MK Anna Patil and Vidhan Bhavan Librarian Baba Waghmare.

A total of 52 participants participated in the two courses held simultaneously.
