Today the Colman college of management hosted an amazing delegation from the Indian Institute of Democratic Leadership(IIDL). Max Simonovsky was invited by the college to share our story.
IIDL was set up by Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini (RMP) which is a Mumbai based research and training academy working for capacity building of people’s representatives, political party workers as well as voluntary social workers.
IIDL’s Post Graduate Program in Leadership, Politics & Governance is a unique inter-disciplinary course designed to bridge the gap between India’s young talent and India’s democratic polity & governance. The Program is targeted at students and young professionals who want to make career in the field of politics, governance, public affairs and leadership. In the PG program the classroom lectures are conducted by academicians, subject experts, policy makers, elected representatives, politicians, administrators, journalists, activists and so on and therefore provides an ideal platform for learning, and understanding. The course lays special emphasis on field visits and study tours.
IDL’s course is aimed at,
Providing deep insight in to the socio-political ground reality of India
Inculcate and enhance leadership values and capacities
Equip the students with necessary skill-sets for having a career in politics, public affairs, voluntary organisations, development sector and so on
Apart from this the course also aims to,
broadening the scope of leadership beyond management-science
address the need to improve human resource
32 students from 14 provinces were selected from above 500 applications which were received for the maiden batch.
In the first batch of this program, IIL has had lectures by prominent academicians and subject experts from their respective fields. This list includes interactions with BJP President Amit Shah, Central Government Ministers Nitin Gadkari, Smriti Irani, Mahesh Sharma, Jitendra Singh; Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, JD-U’s Rajya Sabha MP Harivansh Narayan Singh, Deputy Counsel General of Israeli Consulate in Mumbai Mr Nimrod Assouline, Author Radhakrishnan Pillai, Psephologist Jai Mrug, National Research Professor Dr Ashok Modak, Former CIC Shailesh Gandhi and so on. Lectures were accompanied by field visits to witness political campaigning at Mira-Bhayander Municipal elections, Gujarat Vidhan Sabha elections, Bombay High Court, Dharavi slums, Consulate General of United States of America, Parliament, North Block, Rashtrapati Bhavan among others.
“I think It is an amazing initiative, and I was very impressed by one of the delegates who said that he would like to relocate his children to learn the Israeli way of thinking and doing.”
Says Max Simonovsky.
